One (1) Gear can be installed onto one (1) shade's beaded chain or cord at a time. You will need a Gear for every chain or cord you would like to motorize and control in your home. You can read more at this blog post.

For example, if you have one (1) window covering that uses two (2) chains/cords you would need two (2) Gear units (one for each chain or cord).
