Your chosen sessions must be attended in their entirety.  Partial credit of individual sessions is not available. For Enduring APA credits you also need to pass a posttest with a score of at least 80%.  If you are seeking continuing education credit for a specialty not listed below, it is your responsibility to contact your licensing/certification board to determine course eligibility for your licensing/certification requirement.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Amedco is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Amedco maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 8.00 GENERAL continuing education credits.

Objectives - After Attending This Program You Should Be Able To
1.     Describe the mindset shift involved in using motivational interviewing.
2.     Discuss how to use motivational interviewing in diverse circumstances, to support changes in smoking, diet, exercise, drug use and medication adherence.
3.     Describe how to use questions, reflections, affirmation and summaries to both engage with patients and to promote behaviour change. 
4.     Discuss how the use of listening skills can help to save time by accurately capturing how patients are feeling.
5.     Discuss the importance of finer skills of MI and why they work well to help patients say for themselves why and how they might change. Examine demonstrations of how the “righting reflex” (trying to fix the problem for the patient) so often leads to wasted effort.
