Search by product category can be done in different levels 

As an example, you can search for all apparel (I)

You can search for one or more categories, like dress or skirt, or pant (II) 

You can search for specific  styles like Babydoll Dress (III)  

and so you wish you can added condition on fit, ride, and other parameters using the More filters option (IV)
