s a Jointly Accredited Organization, Amedco is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Amedco maintains responsibility for this course. Social Workers completing this course receive 8.00 GENERAL continuing education credits.

Objectives - After Attending This Program You Should Be Able To
1. Describe how to manage your own emotional reactions to suicidal patients, with the aims of approaching patients with calm and compassion, establishing a shared perspective about suicide concerns, and offering the patient realistic hope for recovery.
2. Identify and reconcile the difference and potential conflict between the clinician’s goal to prevent suicide and the client’s goal to eliminate psychological pain via suicidal behavior.
3. Demonstrate the skills of asking questions to elicit each unique patient’s suicidal ideation, behavior, and plans.
4. Develop a clinical judgment of the patient’s short- and long-term suicide risk in relation to their own history, and others of similar circumstance.
5. Discuss a collaborative treatment and services plan that addresses risk for suicide including reassessment for suicide risk during treatment and a collaborative safety plan.
