Student customers

  1. The customer will board the bus and tap their contactless card or mobile payment device onto the card reader, the same as they would normally but before they leave the bus they will need to tap off on the card reader above the luggage rack.  If a customer tries to pay for an alternative fare, a child, student or group ticket, you need to check to ensure the customer hasn’t tapped the card reader with their card and entered capping.
  2.  Ticketer registers that the first charge on a customer’s card will be for the price of the single (For example if they are travelling between Fareham and Gosport it will be £4). However, the customer won’t be immediately charged
  3.  The next time a customer travels, they will tap their card on and off the machines again. Each tap on and tap off will be logged and the total fare will be capped at £5.50 for the day.
  4.  If the customer does any more journeys after this, as long as they tap on and tap off the card, they will not be charged for any more journeys on that day. If the customer’s journey comes to a total less than the day cap of £5.50, they will be charged for the total of their 2 singles.
  5.  Payment is taken at the end of the day based on the number of journeys the customer made.
